The Jacket
The XTM Nate is a solid, insulated men's ski jacket that earns its place well in the shop. It's built from a 100% recycled stretch oxford fabric, which gives it a softer, slightly more flexible feel. That stretch matters when you're digging out a buried ski or cranking through a mogul field — it moves with you instead of fighting you. And the PFAS-free DWR finish means you're not wearing chemistry that's going away with next season's legislation.
HydroVENT15+ waterproofing rates to 15,000mm with 15,000g/m² of breathability, and the seams are critically taped. That combination handles a full day in wet, heavy snow without soaking through. The insulation split — 80g/sqm through the body, 60g/sqm through the sleeves — keeps the warmth where you lose it fastest while letting the sleeves breathe a little better. For most cold resort days, a good base layer underneath is all you need.
The centre-front placket hides the main zip and hand warmer pockets so the jacket has a clean look when you're not on the mountain. The adjustable, helmet-compatible hood dials in tight without fighting your helmet, and a drawcord hem keeps cold air from riding up when a gust catches you on the chair. A zippered ski pass pocket on the sleeve, an internal Velcro pocket, and a chest pocket under the placket cover the storage bases. It's also a certified carbon neutral product, which is worth noting if that factors into your buying decisions.
What We Like
We like that XTM used a stretch oxford here instead of a basic taslon. It gives the Nate a more premium hand feel — it doesn't crinkle and crunch when you move — and that bit of give makes a real difference over a long day. For the price, that's a meaningful upgrade.
The insulation split is well thought out too. 80g/sqm in the body keeps your core warm on cold lift rides, and dropping to 60g/sqm in the sleeves means your arms aren't turning into radiators when you're actually skiing. It's not a powder-day-in-January jacket for the most demanding days, but it covers the full range of a typical resort season without layering stress.
One honest trade-off: this jacket doesn't have underarm vents. If you run warm or you're doing long bootpacks, you'll want to layer thoughtfully underneath. Plan for that and the Nate works well across a wide range of days. Browse our full men's ski and snowboard apparel if you're building out a layering system from scratch.
Fit & Sizing
The Nate fits like a standard resort jacket — not a trim athletic cut, not oversized. It's roomy enough to layer a mid-weight fleece underneath without feeling restricted. If you're between sizes and you like to layer, go up. If you run slim or you're sticking to a base layer only, stay true to size. The stretch fabric gives you a bit of insurance either way.
Why Willi's
