The Jacket

The Steele is Volcom's do-it-all insulated jacket, cut loose and short so you can layer under it on the coldest of days. Waterproofing sits at 10,000mm with 10,000gm² breathability, so it sheds wet snow on the chairlift and dumps sweat when you're hiking for a lap. The shell is a V-Science 2-Layer recycled fabric with a PFAS-free DWR finish - the water-repellent coating does its job without the forever-chemicals that used to be standard in outerwear. Every seam is critically taped, so the stitch lines that usually leak stay dry.

Inside, 80g body insulation and 60g sleeve insulation put the warmth where you actually need it and skip the bulk where your arms move the most. A taffeta lining slides over base layers instead of catching on them.

Mesh-lined zippered vents dump heat fast once you're working up a sweat, and the adjustable powder skirt keeps snow out on a deep day. Volcom's Zip Tech interface connects the jacket to a matching pair of pants so you get one sealed system at your waist instead of a gap collecting snow. A hidden toggle cinch hood pulls tight over a helmet, and the chin guard is lined in a soft suede-feel fabric so the zipper doesn't bite on the coldest days.

One thing worth knowing up front - this runs loose and boxy, not fitted. If you like your outerwear snug and streamlined, size down.

Volcom calls this an athletic, universal fit, but on the body it wears baggy and short, which tracks with how Volcom cuts most of its outerwear.
