The Pants

Volcom built the Shelter 3D Stretch as a women's insulated jacket for cold resort days and long lift lines, and it's rated to keep you dry through it. The 20K waterproof rating and 20K breathability rating mean it shrugs off wet snow and slush and still vents body heat instead of trapping it against your base layer. The V-Science fabric moves with you through a stretch turn or a bootpack up the hill, and every seam is taped so water doesn't find a way in through the stitching.

Inside, Volcom maps 80/60g synthetic insulation - heavier fill through the core where you need the warmth, lighter through the arms and shoulders where you need the range of motion. It's a low-loft build, so you get warmth without walking around in a sleeping bag.
Volcom also built it with PFAS-free DWR and REPREVE recycled fibers, so the water repellency doesn't rely on the "forever chemical" coatings a lot of shells still use.

What We Like

The mesh-lined underarm vents are the detail we point out first - unzip them on a warmer day or a hike up for a hot lap and you dump heat fast instead of stewing in the shell. The powder skirt keeps snow out of your waistband if you go down in fresh stuff. Volcom's Zip Tech system lets this jacket zip directly to a matching pair of Volcom pants, sealing the gap at your waist for good.

Fit & Sizing

This runs true to size for a women's shell with room for a midlayer underneath - not boxy, not tight through the shoulders. The 4-way stretch fabric gives it a closer fit than a lot of insulated jackets without restricting your reach on a chairlift or a pole plant. If you're between sizes and plan to layer heavy, size up.
