The Piece

This is Volcom's midlayer for guys who live in a hoodie from November through March. The Hydro Riding Hoodie is built out of 290g hydrophobic fleece - 100% polyester that shrugs off wet snow instead of soaking it up, so it keeps working after you brush off a fall. It's got a riding hood with a bungee cinch that stays put, zippered hand pockets for your phone and a hand warmer, thumbholes to keep the sleeves down, and ribbed cuffs and hem to seal out drafts.

What We Like

The hydrophobic fleece is the real selling point here. Regular fleece soaks up snow and gets heavy and cold - this one stays drier longer, which matters if you're the type who sits in the snow to buckle boots or takes a few tumbles in the park. The baggy cut runs true to Volcom's riding fits, so it layers fine over a base layer without feeling tight across the shoulders.

Fit & Sizing

Volcom calls this an athletic and universal fit, and on the body it wears loose and relaxed - roomy through the chest and body without being sloppy. The thumbholes and ribbed cuffs keep sleeves from riding up when you're layering underneath a jacket. If you plan on wearing this as your top layer around town, size to your normal fit. If it's going under a shell all winter, some guys size up so it doesn't feel restrictive over a base layer.
