The Jacket

The Volcom 2836 has been a staple in the brand's snow lineup for years, and the 2027 version keeps the formula that made it work: a baggy fit, solid waterproofing, and enough insulation to stay comfortable from first chair to the parking lot. It's a snowboard-roots jacket through and through — the kind of thing you'd see on someone who's been at it since before park skiing was cool.

The shell is a V-Science 2-Layer recycled blend plain weave with a PFAS-free DWR finish. You're getting 10,000mm waterproofing and 10,000gm² breathability — more than enough for a full day of variable weather. Critical taped seams close off the spots where water tries to sneak in. The 60g body and 40g sleeve insulation keeps the bulk down while still handling cold lift rides without complaint. Taffeta lining throughout helps you get the jacket on and off without a fight.

The brown colorway has a warm, earthy tone that wears well on and off the hill. It's a clean look, and it pairs easily with most pant colors.

What Sets It Apart

Zip Tech® is Volcom's jacket-to-pant interface — it zips the hem of your jacket directly to compatible Volcom pants, sealing the gap so snow stays out when you fall or dig in. The adjustable powder skirt adds a second layer of protection. Together they do the job that a separate powder bib would, and you don't have to think about it mid-run.

The hidden toggle cinch hood locks down without bulk, and the super suede chin guard keeps the zipper from hitting your face. Adjustable cinch cuffs close around your gloves. Brushed tricot lines the hand warmer pockets so you're not putting cold hands into a cold pocket. There's also a specialty lift ticket ring built into the chest — small thing, but you'll miss it when it's not there.

One honest trade-off: 10K waterproofing handles normal resort days fine, but if you're skiing or riding hard in sustained heavy rain or wet spring snow all day, a higher-rated shell will outlast it. That's the honest version of what this jacket is.

Fit and Sizing

The 2836 fits baggy by design. If you usually ride in a regular or slim-fit jacket, size down. If you like the oversized look and want room for a mid-layer underneath, your normal size works. It's cut for snowboard body movement — longer arms, relaxed shoulders — so skiers sometimes find it runs big through the torso. When in doubt, come by any of our three locations and try one on.
