The Snowboard

The Union Force is a 7/10 flex all-mountain snowboard binding for intermediate to advanced riders who want response without a race-stiff feel. It's built on the S9 Duraflex ST baseplate, Union's strongest and most energy-transmitting plate, and it's backed by their lifetime baseplate warranty. The S19 Duraflex ST highback uses a layered build, so you get edge-to-edge drive with some torsional give left in it. The Exoframe 6.0 ankle strap wraps a PU core over the edges of the chassis to cut pressure points, and the TS 5.0 Forcegrip toe strap holds the boot down on the footbed. Magnesium S2 ratchets with a steel base do the cranking. Canting is built in, strap adjustment and the FLAD forward lean are tool-less, and the extruded 3D aluminum heelcup is covered for life. Men's sizes Medium and Large, in pink and yellow. See the rest of our Union snowboard bindings for the full lineup.

What Sets It Apart

The Force sits in the middle of Union's flex range on purpose. A 7/10 is stiff enough that the board reacts when you roll a knee, soft enough that you can ride it all day without your calves screaming. The Molecular Bushing Suspension System sits between the plate and the topsheet and soaks up chatter, which is the part you notice most on firm, scraped-off afternoon snow.

We like the hardware on this one. Magnesium ratchets don't flex under load the way cheaper plastic-bodied ones do, so the strap tightens where you set it and stays there. The extruded aluminum heelcup is a real heelcup, not a plastic wrap, and that's where the heelside response actually comes from. Tool-less FLAD means you can change forward lean on the chairlift instead of digging for a screwdriver in the lodge.

Honest limitation. At 935g a pair it's not a lightweight binding, and a rider who spends every lap in the park on jibs and presses would be happier on something softer in the 4 to 5 flex range. The Force suits the rider doing groomers, trees and a few park laps in the same day.

Compatibility

Union lists the Force as compatible with 2x4, 4x4 and Channel mounting, using the included camber disc. That covers most boards on the wall, but we still want eyes on it. Bring your board and your boots into any of our three locations and we'll mount them, set your stance and check that your boot sits centered in the heelcup with no toe or heel overhang. Boot size is the thing that decides Medium versus Large, not your shoe size on a box, so bring the actual boots you ride. If you're still sorting out the boot half of the setup, our men's snowboard boots are worth trying on at the same visit.

Price is $349.95.

Why Willi's

We've been fitting snowboard setups in Pittsburgh since 1970, and we mount bindings in-house at all three shops. Bring the board in and we'll set your stance width and angles while you wait. Our shop at Seven Springs can sort it out mid-trip too.
