The Ski
The Stöckli Nela 86 is a women's all-mountain freeride ski built at Stöckli's factory in Malters, Switzerland, where every pair goes out by hand. It's a ground-up redesign for 2027, replacing the Nela 88 with a narrower, snappier shape that moves between groomers and off-trail snow without feeling like a compromise in either direction. At 86mm underfoot, it's quick edge-to-edge on hardpack and still wide enough to stay composed in chopped-up or soft conditions.
The Softflex construction and light Freeride Core keep the flex forgiving and approachable, which means a hard charger will find the ceiling sooner than on a stiffer, heavier build. But for the skier it's made for, that's exactly the point. It bends into turns easily, stays lively through bumps and trees, and doesn't punish you for getting caught in the backseat on a late-afternoon variable run.
Who it's For
Intermediate to advanced women skiers who want a single ski that handles a full day on the mountain. Someone who starts on groomed snow, picks up speed through the morning, and then happily ducks into softer terrain or trees in the afternoon. At 155cm, it suits a skier around nose-to-lip height who likes a lively, easy-initiating feel. The 162cm is the call for a more advanced skier who wants a bit more platform and stability as speeds rise. Both lengths are well-matched to a skier who values a light, responsive ride over outright power.
If you're an aggressive expert who prefers to really drive a ski hard into firm, high-speed arcs, a stiffer Stöckli model will serve you better. The Nela 86 earns its keep for the skier who wants to ski all of the mountain, not just the groomers, and wants to feel fresh doing it.
Tech that Matters
Freeride Core (Softflex): Poplar, beech, and paulownia. Lighter wood species make the core softer and more supple than the old Nela 88, lending the ski a livelier, more forgiving feel without sacrificing durability.
Titanal Technology Pro: A measured amount of Titanal keeps the ride quiet and stable when the snow firms up or gets cut apart. It's not a heavy, damp layup. Just enough metal to smooth out the chatter without adding unnecessary swing weight.
Thin Glass Laminate: Stöckli's fiberglass laminate is 25% lighter than a conventional layup. The material composition holds the stiffness characteristics while keeping the overall ski light.
Powder Rocker and Freeride Tail: The tip rocker floats the shovel and makes turn initiation easy in soft or variable snow. The lighter, more flexible tail lets the ski pivot cleanly through bumps and tight spots rather than getting hung up.
Solid Metal Edge Light / Racing Graphite Base: Durable edges at reduced weight, paired with a graphite base that holds wax well and glides cleanly. We tune every pair before it leaves our shop — our tuning service gets those bases dialed from the first run.
