The Jacket

The Spyder Vanqysh is one of the most well-known names in men's ski jackets, and this Melange version is what happens when Spyder puts the full technical package into a fabric that looks genuinely sharp on and off the hill. It's a fitted, insulated shell built for intermediate to expert skiers who want serious weather protection and don't want to think about it.

The shell is EXO SHIELD 30K — 85% recycled nylon, 15% elastane, with a 30K/25K waterproofing-to-breathability laminate and a PFAS-free DWR finish. At 30K, you're dry from wet snow, lift-line sleet, and a full day in heavy weather. The 4-way stretch is real. There's no stiff, papery resistance when you reach across your body — the fabric moves with you. All seams are fully sealed.

A hundred grams of PrimaLoft® Silver ECO insulation handles warmth. It's enough for cold groomers and cold chairlifts, but this is a fitted jacket so if you run warm, you won't feel trapped. If you run cold, layer under it. The core ventilation system with waterproof YKK® zippers lets you pop some air fast when the pitch steepens and you start moving hard.

The Gold Chassis interior is what separates the Vanqysh from mid-line jackets. You get a full-stretch engineered lining, a removable powder skirt with snapback, spacer mesh padding at the shoulders for pack comfort, an internal zippered pocket, a mesh goggle pocket, and a chamois lens wipe.

The hood is removable and helmet-compatible with an adjustable opening. RECCO® avalanche rescue reflector is built in. YKK® AquaGuard® zippers on the center front, hand pockets, and chest pocket. A data card pocket with its own YKK zipper. Adjustable cuff tabs with interior stretch cuffs and thumbholes, and a drawcord hem. CB length in a size M is 29".

What We Like

The stretch on this is the thing. A lot of 30K shells feel armored, like you're skiing inside a rain fly. The EXO SHIELD fabric on the Vanqysh doesn't fight you. And the Gold Chassis interior genuinely earns its name — the stretch lining, the shoulder padding, the goggle pocket with the chamois wipe — it's a lot of well-thought-out detail inside one jacket.

One honest trade-off: the fitted cut is great for feel and layering precision, but if you're between sizes or carry width in your shoulders, size up. It's not a roomy jacket. And 100g of PrimaLoft Silver is warm, but skiers who really feel the cold may want a mid-layer underneath on the coldest days.

Fit & Sizing

The Vanqysh cuts fitted. Spyder sizes it to sit close to the body with room for a mid-layer — not a base layer plus a full fleece. The center back length in a Medium is 29". If you're between sizes, take the larger one and try it over what you'd actually ski in.
