The Jacket

Spyder's kids' ski jackets have always pulled adult-level features down into smaller sizes, and the Slash does it well. The shell is EXO Shield 10K — a stretch recycled-polyester plain weave with a 10K/10K laminate and DWR finish. That means it's waterproof enough for a full day in wet, heavy snow, and the four-way stretch lets kids move without fighting the fabric. Inside, 120g of Sorona® insulation handles the warmth side. Sorona® runs a touch lighter than traditional poly fill for the same warmth rating, so the jacket doesn't feel like a sleeping bag when kids are working hard.

The fixed powder skirt snaps in and has gripper elastic to stay put when they take a tumble. The hood is helmet-compatible with an inner gaiter, so it seals around the helmet instead of gaping. Zippered hand pockets keep gloves, snacks, or a phone secure. There's also an internal goggle pocket with mesh backing. Cuffs have adjustable tabs and gussets so the sleeve actually seals. All components are produced without PFAS chemicals.

What we like

We stock a lot of junior jackets, and the Slash earns its spot by hitting $199 with real specs: 10K waterproofing, Sorona® fill, and YKK zippers throughout. A lot of jackets at this price give you one or two of those things. The Electric Coral colorway is sharp and easy to spot on a crowded run. The PFAS-free construction is a genuine plus, not a footnote. Our one honest note: 10K is solid for most junior ski days, but if your kid skis long hours in heavy, sustained precipitation, a 20K shell holds up better. For the typical weekend skier or beginner working toward intermediate, the Slash covers every day you're likely to have.
