The Pants
The Spyder Expedition Toddler Pant is a Spyder kids' outerwear standout for a simple reason: it makes getting a two-year-old dressed for snow faster. The attached stretch fleece vest uses Velcro shoulder straps instead of clips or buckles, so you're not fighting cold fingers and a wiggly kid at the same time. Slip it on, press the straps, done. The shell is EXO SHIELD 10K — a stretch recycled polyester with a 10K/10K waterproof-breathable laminate and DWR finish. That's a real waterproofing number, not a marketing label, and the seams are taped to match. Inside, 60G EXO THERMO insulation keeps things warm without puffing the pants out to the point where your kid waddles. And the whole thing is PFAS-free.
A few details parents notice after a season: the reinforced scuff cuff around the hem takes the beating from ski edges and boot buckles, and inner snow gaiters with gripper elastic keep powder out of boots without a fight. The big one, though, is the Small to Tall hem. One released stitch adds 2 inches of length — real room to grow across multiple seasons, not just a marketing claim.
What we Like
The Velcro shoulder system is the right call for this age group. Kids 2 through 7 aren't patient with complicated buckles, and neither are parents in a cold kids' pants aisle. The Small to Tall hem is the other thing we push hard — buying a size up costs you nothing in fit because the waist is adjustable, and that extra 2 inches of hem means one pant can cover two seasons for a fast grower. Worth noting: these run standard fit, so a very slim toddler might have a little extra room in the hip. If that's your kid, come in and we'll help you size it.
