The Jacket

The Strawpile is Rossignol's answer for guys who want one jacket that handles a full day on the mountain without babysitting the weather. It's built from a 2-layer recycled face fabric that's rated 20K for waterproofness, which is firmly in the "don't think about it" range even when the snow turns wet and heavy by afternoon. A powder skirt keeps snow out on deep days, the hood is cut to fit over a helmet, and the hem adjusts so you can tighten things up when the wind picks up on a chairlift. This is an alpine jacket first - built for lift-served days.

What We Like

We like that Rossignol didn't cut corners to hit a friendlier price point. The 2-layer construction and fully taped seams mean this jacket does the actual job of a ski jacket - keeping water out - instead of just looking the part. The DWR finish is PFC-free, so you get water repellency on the surface without the older chemistry that a lot of shops are still moving away from. And the recycled face fabric is a real material choice here, not a marketing line tacked onto the box.

Tech That Matters

Waterproofing sits at 20K, which Rossignol classifies as extremely waterproof - built to shed wet snow and slush, not just light flurries. Breathability is rated highly breathable, so you're not steaming up on the skin track up to the lift or during a hike for a side hit. Wind resistance comes in under 2 CFM, meaning it's genuinely windproof rather than just wind-resistant on paper. The 2-layer lamination and fully seam-taped construction work together so water doesn't sneak in through the stitching, which is where a lot of cheaper jackets fail first.

Fit & Sizing

This runs as a standard men's cut, not slim or oversized, so if you're between sizes we'd size up if you plan to layer a mid-weight fleece or puffy underneath, and true to size if you're mostly wearing a base layer and maybe a light layer beneath it. The adjustable hem lets you dial in fit at the waist once you've picked your size, so don't stress over getting it perfect on the first try. Available in S through XXL. If you're not sure where you land, swing by any of our three locations and we'll get you into one to check shoulder and sleeve fit before you buy - way easier than guessing off a size chart.

Why Willis

We've been fitting Pittsburgh skiers and riders since 1970, and jackets are one of those things that look fine online and then don't sit right on your actual shoulders. Come try the Strawpile on in person at any of our three locations - we'll help you dial in the size and the layering underneath before you're standing in a lift line finding out the hard way.
