The Jacket
The 4WS Blackside is built for skiers who move a lot on the hill - reaching for a pole plant on a steep pitch, throwing a shoulder into a quick turn, stretching for a high five off the chair. Rossignol cut this one from a recycled four-way stretch face fabric, so the shell moves with you in both directions instead of holding you stiff like a lot of insulated jackets do. The blocked color pattern gives it some presence on the hill without turning into a costume.
What We Like
The stretch fabric is the headline here - you can reach, twist, and bend without the jacket riding up or binding at the shoulders. PrimaLoft insulation backs it up with real warmth for cold, all-day resort skiing, and it keeps working even if the fabric gets damp from snow or sweat. Pit zips let you dump heat fast on a bluebird day, and the adjustable hem and cuffs cinch down tight when the wind picks up on an exposed ridge.
Tech That Matters
Waterproofing: Rated 20K, which puts it solidly in the "extremely waterproof" category - built for wet snow, slush, and sitting on a chairlift in a storm without soaking through.
Breathability: Extremely breathable rating, so the insulation doesn't turn into a sauna the second you start working.
Wind resistance: Windproof at under 2 CFM, meaning very little air gets through the fabric on an exposed chair or a windy ridgeline.
Stretch: Four-way stretch moves with you both horizontally and vertically - shoulders, arms, and torso all get more room to work than a standard woven shell gives you.
Insulation: PrimaLoft fill for warmth that holds up even if it gets wet, without adding a ton of bulk.
Fit & Sizing
This jacket runs true to a standard mens athletic cut - room to layer a midweight fleece underneath without feeling bulky, but not so much extra fabric that it flaps around on faster runs. If you're between sizes and plan to layer heavy on cold days, size up. If you run warm or want a closer fit under the shell, stay true to size.
Why Willis
We've been fitting Pittsburgh skiers since 1970, and outerwear is one of those things worth trying on before you buy. Stop into any of our three locations and we'll help you size it right, layer it properly, and make sure it actually keeps you warm on the days you need it most.
