The Snowboard
The Rene is Rome's new collab deck with René Rinnekangas, and it rides like a guy who grew up hitting side hits and natural features built it. This is a directional twin - the nose sits a touch longer than the tail, but the profile stays symmetrical enough that switch landings don't feel like a compromise. Pop off a lip, land switch, ride away.
At 7 out of 10 on Rome's flex scale, this board sits on the stiffer side of playful. It's got enough give to press and butter through the park, but enough backbone to hold an edge when you point it down a real pitch and open it up.
Who It's For
This board fits intermediate to advanced riders who already have some mileage under their bindings - people comfortable linking turns on blue and black terrain and looking to add creativity, not people still working on their heel-side edge. If you're newer to the sport, the 7/10 flex is going to feel demanding underfoot and less forgiving on sloppy landings. Riders who like to session a jump line, poach side hits on the way down, and still want a board that can charge when the terrain opens up will get along with this one. It rewards active riding - stomping it into turns and popping off whatever's in front of you - rather than a lazy, drift-it-out style.
Tech That Matters
Fusion Camber puts positive camber underfoot with small rocker pockets right at the contact points. On snow that means the pop and edge hold of a traditional cambered board, but the tip and tail release easy instead of catching when you're pivoting into a buttery landing or a switch takeoff. The bamboo hot rod is carbon-wrapped: adds snap without piling on weight, so ollies and pop off natural features feel lively instead of dead. The sintered base underneath is fast and durable - it holds wax well and shrugs off the scrapes that come from riding rails, rocks, and everything else side-hit terrain throws at a base.
Sizing
The 153 suits a smaller or lighter rider who wants a quick, flickable board for the park and tighter lines. The 156 is the middle ground - most riders in the 5'6" to 5'10" range land here and it'll cover park laps and all-mountain days without feeling like a compromise either direction. The 159 is for bigger or more aggressive riders who want the extra length for stability at speed and floating through variable snow. If you're between two sizes, go up if you like to point it and go fast, and down if quick, playful movement matters more to you.
Why Willis
We've been fitting Pittsburgh riders since 1970, and boards like the Rene are exactly why we like to talk to people before they buy - flex and sizing matter more than the graphics. Stop into any of our three locations and we'll get you on the right length, and if you need bindings or boots to match, we can set the whole thing up in-house.
