The Jacket

The Quiksilver Young Guns Speedcheck is a men's ski and snowboard jacket built around a 20,000mm waterproof shell. It means wet snow, a full day of steady snow, a chair-ride in driving sleet — none of it gets through. The shell is partially recycled polyester woven fabric at 240 g/m² (7.1 oz/yd²), so it's got some weight and structure to it. This isn't a paper-thin shell. It moves solid moisture and wind and keeps doing it all day.

The Speedcheck has insulated fill in a baggy fit, which puts it in a different lane than a pure shell. You get warmth built in without having to stack a heavy mid-layer under it. The taffeta lining feels smooth against base layers and doesn't grab or bunch. Sleeve vents give you an escape valve when you work up a sweat on a long skin or a steep hike. The removable powder skirt keeps snow out at the hem when you go down in deep stuff. YKK AQUAGUARD zipper up front is water-resistant and built to last a season of real use.

Hood is fully adjustable and helmet-compatible. Pockets are well thought out: zippered hand pockets, a pass pocket at the arm, an interior zippered pocket, and an interior goggle sleeve. LYCRA stretch inner cuffs with thumbholes seal the gap between glove and sleeve. Contrast panel and piping detail give the Dark Denim colorway a clean look that reads back to early 2000s ski and snowboard style without being loud about it.

What We Like

We like that the 20K rating is paired with a removable powder skirt and LYCRA cuffs — a lot of jackets at this price give you the waterproofing number but skip the details that keep snow out at the edges. The baggy fit works well over a mid-layer on cold days or straight over a base layer when it's warmer. And the goggle sleeve inside is one of those things you don't think about until you need it — keeping your goggles from fogging on the lift matters.

The honest limitation: it's not a technical tourer. The insulated fill keeps you warmer on lifts and groomers, but if you run hot or do long uphill efforts regularly, a shell-only jacket with removable insulation gives you more temperature control. The Speedcheck is built for riding days, not skinning days.

Fit & Sizing

Quiksilver cuts the Speedcheck in a baggy fit — it's meant to sit loose through the chest and arms, the way snowboard outerwear has always fit. That's intentional, and it's part of the appeal. If you want a trim alpine fit, this isn't it. If you want a jacket you can layer under without it pulling across the shoulders, this is exactly it.

Quiksilver's men's snow apparel runs true to size. The size chart shows chest widths of 37.8" at Small, 39.8" at Medium, 41.7" at Large, and 43.7" at XL. If you're between sizes and planning to wear a heavier mid-layer underneath, size up. If you're mostly in base layer territory, your standard size should work well.
