The Pants
The Picture Plan Pants are a straight-fit, 2-layer insulated ski pant built for the skier or rider who wants real protection at a sensible price. Picture Organic Clothing is a French brand that has been building technical outerwear from recycled and sustainable materials since 2008, and the Plan Pants are one of their core, year-after-year styles for good reason.
The shell is 64% recycled polyester and 36% polyester, treated with Teflon EcoElite PFC-free DWR. That's a non-fluorinated water repellent treatment, so you're not trading environmental claims for performance ones. The DryPlay 10K/10K membrane sits underneath — 10,000mm waterproofing, 10,000g breathability. That's a solid spec for resort days in variable weather. Not a Gore-Tex rating, but plenty for the mix of groomer, slush, and afternoon wet snow most people actually ski. The seams are critically taped, meaning the high-exposure areas — crotch, inner leg, waistband — are sealed.
Warmth comes from Coremax lining at 96g/m², a lightweight insulation that keeps the pant from feeling stiff or heavy. It's a warmth-level 3 out of 10 by Picture's own scale, so this is a pants-over-a-fleece-base-layer situation on genuinely cold days. On mild days it's fine on its own. Thigh vents let you dump heat when you're working hard, and they're easy to reach mid-run.
What We Like
The pockets are done right. Zipped hand pockets sit under flaps to shed snow. There are snap-closure cargo pockets on the thighs — big enough for a phone, a granola bar, and a trail map if you still use one. The I-fit system at the hem lets you roll the cuffs when you're off your skis, which sounds small but makes a real difference at the end of the day walking back through a slushy parking lot.
The sustainability piece is real, not just a label. The fabric meets Global Recycled Standard and Oeko-Tex Standard 100. Picture publishes the environmental data on their products. If that matters to you, these pants back it up.
One honest note: at 10K/10K, the Plan Pants aren't built for a full day in heavy wet snow or a prolonged storm. A skier who regularly skis in rain or heavy spring snow will want to step up to a higher membrane rating. For most resort days, they're more than enough.
