The Jacket

Picture's Picture Organic Clothing line has always been built around one idea: make serious mountain gear without wrecking the planet to do it. The Merassen Gore-Tex Jacket is where that philosophy runs into the most demanding weather a ski season can throw at you. It's a 2-layer Gore-Tex ePE shell with 40 g/m² polyester insulation, a 28,000 mm waterproof rating, and fully taped seams. You're dry from both directions — the membrane blocks rain and wet snow coming in, and it breathes well enough that you won't be soaked from the inside on a hard push through the trees. The shell itself is 100% recycled polyester, and the DWR treatment is PFC-free, so you're not trading clean water for dry skiing.

The insulation is light — 40 g/m² won't carry you through a cold January dawn patrol alone, but it adds real warmth over a solid mid-layer without turning the jacket stiff or bulky. That's the trade-off here: this is a layering jacket, not a standalone puffer. Wear it right and you'll be comfortable in a wide range of conditions. Wear it without a base layer on a cold day and you might wish you'd grabbed a fleece.

What We Like

Pit zips give you a fast exit when you warm up on a long run without having to strip anything off. The fixed snow skirt keeps powder and chair-lift snow out of your waistband. YKK waterproof zippers on the chest and hand pockets mean you can actually trust what's in there to stay dry. And the wrist gaiters with thumbholes seal the gap between glove and sleeve the way they should.

Pockets are well thought out: zipped hand pockets, a waterproof chest pocket, a dedicated ski pass pocket, an internal mesh pocket for a phone, and a zipped interior pocket for anything you don't want rattling around. Adjustable hem with drawcord and hook-and-loop cuff adjustment round out the fit. Straight cut means it fits over a mid-layer without pulling across the shoulders on a lift, and it doesn't look like a trash bag when you're standing in line for coffee after.

Picture backs this with a lifetime warranty. That's not standard in the industry, and it's worth factoring into the price.

Fit & Sizing

The Merassen runs in a straight fit — not baggy, not athletic. It's built to layer over a mid-weight fleece or light insulator and still move with you. If you're right on the edge between sizes, the larger size will give you more room for a thicker mid-layer on cold days. Available in Dress Blues in M, L, and XL.
