The Jacket
The Peak Performance Maroon HIPE® 2L Insulated Shell is a straightforward resort ski jacket. It's 10,000mm waterproof and breathes at 10,000 g/m²/24h — solid mid-range numbers that handle a full day of wet snow without feeling like you're wearing a trash bag. The 75D midweight HIPE® fabric has a 2-way stretch built in, so you're not fighting the jacket through pole plants and hard-angle turns.
The insulation is synthetic, body-mapped: 80g/m² through the body and sleeves, 60g/m² in the hood. Synthetic keeps its warmth when wet in a way down doesn't, and it dries faster too. The trade-off is weight — at 1.12 kg it's not a featherweight, and it won't compress into a stuff sack. This is a wear-it-every-day resort jacket, not a packable layer.
All seams are fully taped. The fixed snow skirt has a snap-in connector for Peak Performance pants, but it'll work as a standalone barrier even without them. Underarm vents let you dump heat on the lift line or when you're pushing hard. The YKK AquaGuard® zipper runs the full front, and a fleece-lined chin guard keeps the zip pull off your face.
What We Like
The hood is genuinely good. It's detachable, adjusts two ways (height and width), fits over a helmet, and has a laminated brim that keeps its shape in the wind. A lot of jackets at this price give you a hood that's technically adjustable but floppy — this one holds. Elastic wrist gaiters seal under gloves without any fussing.
Pockets: zippered hand pockets, a chest pocket, a ski pass pocket on the sleeve, an inner zippered pocket, and an inner mesh stash pocket. There's also a goggle wipe tucked into one of the pockets — a small thing that earns its place on a cold, foggy morning. The shell contains 78% GRS certified recycled polyester and the finish is PFAS-free, which is worth knowing if that matters to you.
Where it fits best is intermediate to advanced skiers who want one jacket they can wear all season. It's not a hard-charging freeride jacket and it's not a fashion piece. It's a well-thought-out men's ski jacket that covers the bases at $350.
Fit & Sizing
Peak Performance cuts this in a regular fit with room for a base layer and a mid layer underneath. Multiple reviewers note it runs slightly small, so if you're between sizes or plan to layer a heavier fleece, take the larger size. The adjustable hem drawcord and velcro cuffs let you dial the fit once you've got it on. Stop into any of our three locations and try it on — that's always the best call with a jacket.
