The Jacket

The Patagonia Powder Town Jacket is a fully featured shell built for skiers and riders who want to move hard and stay dry. It's a 2-layer H2No® Performance Standard shell — waterproof, breathable, windproof — with a regular fit that layers over a midlayer without binding up. The fabric is 3.5-oz 100% postconsumer recycled polyester, and both the membrane and the PFAS-free DWR finish are made without intentionally added per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. It doesn't have insulation, so you control your warmth with what you wear under it.

The hood is helmet-compatible with a fixed, laminated visor that keeps rain and blowing snow out of your eyes. A tall collar seals up when conditions get ugly. Pit zips open wide for fast heat dump on the chairlift or a warm spring morning, and articulated arms mean you can actually reach without fighting the fabric.

The powder skirt is low-profile with a webbing loop at the center back that clips to any Patagonia Powder Town Pants, so it stays put on deep days. Pockets are practical: two brushed-tricot handwarmer pockets, a zippered chest pocket, a zippered forearm pocket for your pass, plus a zippered and a drop-in pocket inside. All exterior zippers are coated and waterproof. Hem cinch exits through the handwarmer pockets, no fumbling. There's a concealed RECCO® reflector built in. Made in a Fair Trade Certified™ factory.

It's an uninsulated shell, it runs cold on its own below about 20°F. Plan on a solid men's midlayer underneath on bitter days.

What We Like

We appreciate that Patagonia kept this one clean. It's a proper mountain shell at $369 — the pit zips are full-length, the powder skirt actually seals, and the forearm pass pocket is sized right for a lift ticket or an RFID card. The PFAS-free treatment on the shell and the recycled construction make it easier to recommend without any caveats. The brushed-tricot lining in the handwarmer pockets is a nice touch on cold mornings. And at 31 oz, it's not a packable ultralight, but it's not dragging you down the mountain either. It carries the weight in durable fabric you'll ski in for years.

Fit & Sizing

The Powder Town runs a regular fit — not slim, not boxy. It's cut to go over a base layer and a fleece or insulated midlayer without pulling across the shoulders. If you ride a bigger midlayer or you're between sizes, go up. The articulated patterning gives you reach on the hill without extra bulk.
