The Piece

The Patagonia Nano Puff has been around long enough that it's a staple in every skiers closet. At 309 grams (10.9 oz), it packs down small, sheds light rain, blocks wind, and keeps you warm even if things get damp. It works as a standalone on a cold, clear day and layers cleanly under a shell when the weather turns serious. It's a 60-g PrimaLoft® Gold Insulation Eco fill, 100% postconsumer recycled polyester, made with P.U.R.E.™ (Produced Using Reduced Emissions) technology — so it's warm, it stays warm wet, and the manufacturing footprint is genuinely lower than conventional insulation production.

The shell is 1.3-oz 100% recycled polyester ripstop with a DWR finish made without intentionally added PFAS. It sheds light moisture but it's not a waterproof membrane — on a heavy rain day, you'll want a shell over it.

What we Like

The brick quilting and horizontal quilted side panels do real work: they lock insulation in place so you don't end up with cold spots after a season of use, and the low-profile seams mean it slides under a shell without bunching. Patagonia updated the shoulder fit and added elbow articulation, so reaching across the car or swinging poles doesn't pull the back up. Two zippered hand-warmer pockets, and the internal chest pocket zips flat into a stuffsack with a reinforced carabiner clip-in loop — handy when you're moving between the car and the women's sportswear rack and want it out of the way.

It's bluesign® approved, made in a Fair Trade Certified™ factory, with 100% recycled shell, lining, and insulation throughout. If that matters to you, Patagonia actually backs it up. If what you need is a bomber mid-layer for cool to cold days, the specs do the work on their own.

Worth saying plainly: this is a mid-layer and light-use outer. Heavy precipitation means a shell on top.
