The Snowboard
The Proto Type 3 is Never Summer's follow-up to the Proto Type 2, and it's built to do a little bit of everything without feeling like it's compromising anywhere. This is a true twin - identical nose and tail, centered stance, rides the same forward or switch. Chase Blackwell, the US Snowboard Team rider who spent two years developing this board, wanted something he could ride park one run and open bowls the next. That shows up in the details: a Triple Camber Recurve profile that pops out of turns and holds an edge on firmer snow, paired with softer flex through the tips and tails so it still butters and presses like a park board should.
Flex and damping both land at a 6 out of 10 - a deliberate, balanced number. It's not a stiff charger and it's not a noodle. It sits right in the middle.
Who It's For
This board fits an intermediate to advanced rider who wants one board for the whole mountain - groomers in the morning, side hits and park laps in the afternoon, maybe a few powder turns if the storm cooperates. The medium flex asks for some skill to load and unload it properly, so a true beginner is going to find it a little demanding underfoot. Riders who like to butter, spin switch, and still want a board that holds an edge when things firm up will feel right at home here. The Blower Stance inserts let you shift your stance back for deeper snow days, but this is still a true twin at heart - it won't float through deep powder the way a dedicated directional board will, even with the setback option dialed in.
Tech That Matters
The NS Superlite Wood Core keeps the board light without giving up snap, and Never Summer builds it with a Precision Stitched Carbon Matrix - their newest carbon layup - laid out in a T3 Twin Carbon Mapping pattern. In plain terms: carbon placed where it counts, for pop without adding stiffness everywhere. The Triple Camber Recurve profile is three camber zones working together for edge hold and explosive pop out of turns, and R.I.P. Edge-Hold Technology backs that up with grip that stays tenacious even when the snow gets firm. The Blower Stance inserts are a quick binding-position option for powder days without needing a second board.
Sizing
At 154cm, this board sits around chin to nose height on a lighter, shorter rider and suits someone still building confidence at higher speeds. Step up to 157 or 158cm and you're in the sweet spot for most riders of average height who want a board that handles switch riding and park laps without feeling sluggish on faster terrain. The 160cm is the pick for taller or heavier riders, or anyone who rides aggressively and wants more board underfoot for stability at speed.
