The Snowboard
The Golden Orca is Travis Rice's answer to riding pow and park on the same deck, and doing both at a high level. Lib Tech took the original Orca's floaty nose and merged it with the pop and precision of the T. Rice Pro line. What comes out the other end is a directional all-mountain board that trenches hardpack carves, blasts off natural side hits, and swims through deep snow like it's supposed to be there.
Who It's For
The Golden Orca is built for advanced and expert riders who move around the whole mountain in one session - carving groomers, hunting side hits, and dropping into whatever soft snow they can find. The C2 contour and the stiffer, poppier tail want a rider who can drive the board with some force. This isn't a board that flatters hesitant turns, and newer riders will find the tail unforgiving until their edge control catches up. If you ride switch nearly as much as regular and want one board that handles both without a second deck in the garage, this is the one.
Tech That Matters
The core runs 60% Makah Hemlock and 40% Paulownia, extended through the tip and tail for a strong, poppy flex that doesn't feel dead underfoot. The hemlock comes from the Makah tribe's sustainably managed forest near Lib Tech's factory in the Pacific Northwest. Tri-Ax and Carbon X glass lay over that core for torsional stiffness and the kind of pop that throws you back out of a landing instead of absorbing it.
Seven edge serrations run along the effective edge - Lib Tech's Serrated Steak Knife Technology - and they bite into firm snow and hold through variable conditions better than a straight edge does. The top sheet is eco-sublimated Ocean-bound PBT, made from recycled PET plastic collected from coastal areas, so the graphic layer is doing something besides looking good.
Sizing
This board is volume shifted, so it rides bigger than the length suggests. Plan on sizing down 1 to 3 cm from whatever you'd normally ride.
Why Willi's
We've been fitting Pittsburgh riders since 1970, and volume-shifted shapes like this one change the usual sizing conversation. Stop into any of our three locations and we'll get you dialed in - stance, bindings, the whole setup - before you head out.
