The Jacket

The Val-d'Isère 3.0 is Helly Hansen's update to a jacket that's been a solid pick for resort days for a while now - it's warm, it's built for real winter weather, and it doesn't skimp on the details that make a long day on snow comfortable instead of just tolerable.

What We Like

Helly Hansen reworked the fit through the bust on this version and gave the sleeves more room to move - so reaching up for a chairlift bar or planting a pole doesn't pull the whole jacket up with it.

Tech That Matters

This jacket runs on Helly Hansen's HELLY TECH Performance fabric, so it's waterproof, windproof, and still breathes when you're working harder than you planned. Fully taped seams back that up - no cold water sneaking in through the stitching on a wet, heavy-snow day. For warmth, you get a synthetic blowable fill layered with 100g of PrimaLoft BLACK Eco insulation. It's a warm jacket. Skiers who run hot or ski hard all day might want to use the underarm vent zippers early and often, because 100g plus blowable insulation adds up fast once you're moving instead of standing around.

Other details worth knowing: a helmet-compatible hood, wrist gaiters that keep snow out of your gloves, and multiple pockets - including brushed hand pockets that double as a warm-up spot for cold fingers between runs.

Fit & Sizing

Helly Hansen built this one with more room through the bust and sleeves than earlier versions. It's cut to layer over a base layer and a light mid layer without feeling bulky, but it's not an oversized fit - if you like to size up for extra room under , go up one size from your usual. We carry it in S, M, L, and XL, and honestly the best way to know is to try it on in person, especially if you're between sizes.

Why Willis

We've been fitting Pittsburgh skiers and riders for winter since 1970, and jackets are one of those things that are just easier to get right in person - fit, arm length, how it sits over a helmet. Stop by any of our three locations and we'll help you find the right size before you're standing in a lift line finding out the hard way.
