Giro Axis Goggles 2027
The Goggle
The Axis is Giro's frameless goggle for 2027, and it comes with two lenses instead of one - a sun/all-conditions VIVID lens and a low-light infrared VIVID lens, both built with optics by ZEISS. That's the whole point of this goggle. You swap lenses in seconds instead of squinting through the wrong tint on a grey Pittsburgh morning.
What Sets It Apart
The Axis uses four self-locating magnets plus four snap pins, so the lens finds its spot and locks in without you fighting it. Pull off the sun lens once the clouds roll in, snap on the low-light lens, and you're back on the chair. It's a fast swap, not a project.
Lens Tech
Both lenses are injection-molded and cylindrical, which keeps the VIVID color and contrast boost consistent edge to edge instead of warping toward the outside of your vision. The sun lens handles bright bluebird days and high glare off groomers. The infrared low-light lens is built for flat light, overcast skies, and those early laps before the sun really commits - which describes a solid chunk of our local ski season. Giro's Expansion View Technology widens the peripheral view inside a medium-fit frame, so you pick up more of what's happening at the edges of the run without the goggle feeling oversized on your face.
Fit & Compatibility
Fog is the actual enemy on a warm, wet Pennsylvania hardpack day, and the Axis fights it with EVAK vent technology - non-absorbent foam that lets moisture out while keeping wind and snow out, backed by an anti-fog coating on the lens itself. Triple-layer face foam and a microfleece facing keep it comfortable against your skin for a full day, and the frame is built OTG-friendly if you ski in your prescription glasses. One honest note: this is a medium-fit frame, so if you've got a narrower or smaller face, try it on before you buy rather than guessing off the spec sheet. Bring your helmet in when you do - we'll check the goggle-to-helmet gap while you're here, since that's where gaper gaps usually show up. As for board or ski compatibility, that's a non-issue, this one's on your face, not your feet.
Why Willis
We've been fitting Pittsburgh-area skiers with goggles and gear since 1970, and helmet-to-goggle fit is one of those things that's worth doing in person instead of by eye at home. Stop into any of our three locations, try the Axis on with your own helmet, and swap lenses on the counter before you commit. If something's off, we'll sort it before you're standing in the lift line finding out the hard way.
