The Ski

Some skis are good. The Black Pearl 88 is a legend. It's stable without being demanding, easy without being boring, and it somehow manages to make almost everyone who steps into it look like a better skier. Ripping groomers, cutting through crud, or cruising the whole mountain — this is the gold standard women's all-mountain ski that's earned its reputation as one of the best-selling, most trusted skis ever made.

Who It's For

The Black Pearl 88 is built for advanced through expert (intermediates - keep reading) women skiers looking for a versatile, frontside-leaning all-mountain daily driver — the kind of skier who carves with intent, handles a wide range of conditions in any given week, and wants one dependable ski rather than a quiver. It's equally at home with intermediate-to-advanced skiers who want a capable, forgiving all-mountain ski that doesn't demand perfect technique to feel good underfoot. It's not the pick for someone chasing a surfy, playful feel — this ski leans into confident, grounded performance on groomers and mixed terrain rather than loose, freestyle-oriented skiing.

Tech That Matters

At the core is Blizzard's women-specific TrueBlend All-Mountain woodcore, pairing harder beech in the high-stress zones with softer poplar in the tip and tail, which matters because it lets Blizzard precisely tune flex and energy transfer along the length of the ski — power and edge hold where you need it, forgiveness where you don't. That core is reinforced with two sheets of Titanal through Blizzard's FluxForm W.S.D. construction, which matters because it knits the whole layup together for clean torsional response and predictable flex behavior, giving the ski real damping and edge grip without feeling stiff or unforgiving.
Early rise tip and tail with 6 mm camber under foot which matters because that camber zone is what lets you lock in a genuine, confident carve when you tip the ski on edge, while the rocker at the tip and tail keeps turn initiation smooth and effortless and adds a bit of forgiving float when snow conditions get soft or mixed. A full sidewall sandwich construction rounds it out, delivering the direct power transmission and durability that let this ski handle everything from casual cruising to aggressive, intentional carving.

The topsheet and build quality are exactly what you'd expect from Blizzard. These skis are made to last multiple seasons and still feel good on day 50. For women getting more serious about their skiing that durability matters.

Sizing

For this ski, we use our standard height-based guide. At 88mm waist with a traditional all-mountain shape, we fit intermediate skiers about 5-10cm below their height and expert skiers right at their height, with advanced skiers somewhere in the middle. If you're between lengths, the shorter ski is easier to manage and a good call for most recreational skiers.

Why Willi's

We've been fitting skiers since 1970, and the Black Pearl 88 has earned its place in our shop year after year - it's one of the first skis we reach for when a customer wants a straight answer. Stop in at any of our three locations and we'll match you to the right length, pair it with the right binding, and get you set up properly. That's what we do.
