The Ski
The Black Pearl line has been one of the most trusted names in women's all-mountain skiing for years, and the 84 is crutial to the success of the lineup for good reason. An all-conditions Pearl from bell to bell. Lay the Black Pearl 84 over on edge and it engages instantly, pulling you effortlessly through every turn — trenching fresh corduroy, slicing through crud, and biting into ice, with enough playfulness left over to dabble in the trees when the mood strikes.
Who It's For
This is a women-specific all-mountain ski built for intermediate to advanced skiers who want stability and control with room to keep progressing. It's aimed at women who spend most of their time carving groomers and pistes but still want the confidence to explore variable terrain, afternoon slush, or the occasional trip off-trail without switching skis. The 84mm waist keeps it firmly piste-focused and frontside-leaning, making it the right call for someone who prioritizes precision and edge grip over deep-snow float, while still wanting a ski capable of handling whatever the mountain throws at it on a given day.
That said — if you're charging hard groomers every single run and want a ski that really bites and holds at speed, the 84 will feel a touch soft for you. Step up to the 88 or look at something with more edge grip.
Tech That Matters
At the core is Blizzard's women-specific TrueBlend woodcore, a blend of beech and poplar, which matters because it lets Blizzard precisely tune flex along the length of the ski — denser beech underfoot acts like a gas pedal for power and drive, while softer wood in the tip and tail keeps things forgiving and nimble regardless of ski length.
That core is wrapped in Blizzard's FluxForm All-Mountain W.S.D. construction, which uses a full sheet of Titanal broken into individual strips across different layers, which matters because it creates a damp, stable feel from tip to tail while actually reducing torsional rigidity just enough to improve maneuverability in variable snow, rather than making the ski feel like a stiff, unforgiving plank.
The ski runs a Rocker-Camber-Rocker profile, which matters because the camber underfoot is what gives the Black Pearl 84 its signature carving bite and edge hold on hardpack, while the rockered tip and tail smooth out turn initiation and add a bit of forgiveness and float when conditions get soft or chewed-up. Sandwich compound sidewall construction (with carbon) rounds this out, delivering durability, precise power transmission, and confident edge hold underfoot.
Sizing
The Black Pearl 84 comes in 146, 152, and 158cm. As a general rule, intermediate skiers should look for a ski that comes up around nose height. Advanced skiers can go nose to forehead.
