The Binding

The Strive 12 GW is Atomic's mid-to-upper-range alpine binding built for skiers who push hard but aren't quite chasing expert level DIN numbers. DIN range tops out at 12 — plenty of retention for aggressive intermediates through serious all-mountain skiers. The Strive 12 is the binding equivalent of a good pair of running shoes — you're not supposed to notice it, you're just supposed to feel more connected to what you're doing. It sits low and close to the ski, which means less of that vague, disconnected feeling some bindings give you, and more of a direct, next-to-snow sense of what your edges are actually doing underneath you.

What Sets It Apart

This is a binding for the broad middle of the skier population — intermediate through advanced all-mountain skiers who spend their days on groomers, mixed inbounds terrain, and everyday resort laps rather than pushing extreme speed or aggressive terrain. With a DIN range of roughly 4 to 12, it's built to comfortably cover a wide range of skiers. If you're a very strong, aggressive skier at the top end of that weight range skiing hard, the 12 DIN ceiling is workable but on the snug side — in that case, the step-up Strive 14 makes more sense. The Strive 12 is a resort-focused alpine binding through and through.

The core idea behind the Strive 12 is the LDN toe piece — "low, direct, and neutral" — which places the binding closer to the ski itself. That lower mounting height brings your center of gravity down and closer to the snow, which is what gives the binding its responsive, connected feel rather than a floaty, disconnected one. Pairing that with a lightweight 3-part heel keeps the whole unit light without giving up retention, and the low-profile chassis is specifically designed to interfere as little as possible with the ski's natural flex — so the ski underneath you performs the way it was designed to, instead of getting stiffened up by a bulky binding sitting on top of it. Atomic also builds in metal only in the most load-bearing zones rather than throughout the whole binding, which keeps swing weight down (helpful for keeping your legs fresh over a long day) while still reinforcing the areas that need to hold up under real force. Automatic Toe Adaptation and Auto GripWalk compatibility round it out, letting the binding automatically adjust to different alpine and GripWalk boot sole shapes so you get consistent, predictable release values without needing to swap parts or adapters.

Compatibility

The Strive 12 GW mounts on any ski with a standard alpine mounting plate. It's not a system binding — no Atomic track required. That makes it a solid upgrade option if you're re-mounting a pair of skis you already love. Boot sole compatibility covers standard ISO 5355 alpine soles and Gripwalk soles.

Why Willi's

We've been mounting bindings in Pittsburgh since 1970, and we do it right — proper DIN settings based on your height, weight, skier type, and boot sole length. Every binding we sell gets mounted and tested in-house by people who actually ski. That's the Willi's standard.
