The Ski
The Maverick 88 CTI is Atomic's answer to the skier who wants one ski that handles everything on the mountain — groomers, cut-up crud, the occasional chopped-up mess after a busy Saturday at Seven Springs. It's not a powder ski. It's not a race ski. It's the ski you grab on a random Tuesday when you don't know exactly what the mountain is going to give you, and you just want to send it.
At 88mm underfoot, it lives in that sweet spot for skiing in the Mid-Atlantic — wide enough to float through a few inches of fresh, narrow enough to carve a real edge on the morning groomers before the crowds tear them up.
Who It's For
This ski is aimed at advanced skiers who spend most of their time on groomed trails but want the ability to venture into bumps, trees, or occasional soft snow without switching skis. It suits people who prefer a traditional, directional feel and value edge grip and quick, confident transitions over a playful, jibby ride — someone who's outgrown a beginner or intermediate ski and is ready for something that rewards strong, deliberate technique. It's the most frontside-focused ski in the Maverick lineup, so it's a better match for someone chasing precision on-piste than someone prioritizing powder or park time.
Tech That Matters
At the heart of the ski is the CTI-powered core, which blends carbon and titanal with the wood core — this combination is what gives the ski its balance of agility and stability, letting it feel lively and responsive while still holding composure at speed. That wood core itself, called the Power Woodcore, uses a mix of ash and poplar, chosen specifically to dampen vibration and enhance control once you're moving fast on firm snow, so the ride stays smooth rather than getting chattery underfoot. The carbon and titanal reinforcement also increases torsional stiffness, which is the direct source of the ski's excellent edge hold — it's what lets the ski stay locked in and predictable through a hard carve rather than washing out. A uniquely shaped HRZN 3D tip adds more surface area at the front of the ski, improving float in deeper snow and giving the ski more versatility when conditions turn variable, so it isn't purely a one-dimensional groomer ski. The early-rise All-Mountain Rocker profile (about 15% tip rocker / 75% camber / 10% tail rocker) keeps a long camber zone underfoot for grip and power transmission, while the rockered tip and tail keep turn initiation smooth and the ski composed even as speeds climb.
Sizing
The Maverick 88 CTI comes in 159, 165, 172, and 179cm. Shorter lengths (159–165) suit skiers who prioritize quick edge-to-edge transitions and mostly ski groomed terrain. The 172 is the sweet spot for most intermediate-advanced skiers in the 5'7"–5'11" range. The 179 is for bigger, more aggressive skiers who want the extra length for high-speed stability.
If you're unsure, come in — we'll look at your height, weight, boot sole length, and how you actually ski before we point you at a length. That conversation matters more than any chart.
