The Boot

Narrow feet and soft flex almost never show up in the same boot — usually you get one or the other. The Hawx Ultra 85 W breaks that pattern: a genuinely slim, low-volume fit paired with a forgiving flex, so newer or less aggressive skiers with narrow feet finally get a boot that locks them in without demanding they ski like an expert to enjoy it.

Who It's For

If you're an intermediate skier—someone who can link parallel turns confidently and is starting to push into steeper groomers or the occasional mogul field—this boot makes a lot of sense. It's got enough stiffness to give you real feedback and edge control without punishing you on a long groomer day.

But this isn't for you if you're a true expert skier and want a 100+ flex race-inspired boot. And on the other end, if you're just getting started and spending most of your time on beginner terrain, an 85 flex might feel stiffer than you want. The Hawx Ultra 85 W lives in a specific lane—and it's a great lane for a lot of women skiers we work with.

Flex & Fit

The Hawx Ultra 85 W carries an 85 flex, making it the softest and most forgiving boot in the entire Hawx Ultra women's range — built specifically so newer or less aggressive skiers don't have to fight a stiff shell to get results. On fit, it uses the narrow 98mm last that defines the whole Ultra line, delivering that locked-in "Hawx feel" for skiers with slimmer ankles and calves who'd otherwise feel sloppy or unsupported in a wider boot. The Adaptive Fit System cuff spoiler adds some flexibility on top of that narrow base — remove it for roughly a full cuff size of extra volume if your calf shape needs it, no tools required.

The liner is heat-moldable, which means we can punch it out and custom-fit it in the shop. We do that kind of work every day. Mondo sizing runs 22.5 through 26.5 in this model, so it covers roughly a US Women's 5 through 9.5 range.

Tech That Matters

Atomic's Mimic liner technology uses a custom-moldable material that reshapes around the unique contours of your foot—heel, ankle, instep. It's not magic, but it's noticeably better than a standard foam liner for eliminating pressure points. The Prolite shell construction keeps weight down without sacrificing torsional stiffness, so the boot doesn't feel like a brick when you're hiking to a lift or navigating a flat runout.
The defining feature here is the narrow 98mm last itself — it's what actually delivers power and direction to the skis with minimal wasted motion, since a boot that fits loosely around a narrow foot or ankle lets energy dissipate sideways instead of transferring straight into the edge. That precision is backed by Prolite construction, which builds the shell at its slimmest possible profile and then reinforces only the specific zones that need strength, keeping the boot light and agile rather than heavy and cumbersome. Energy backbone, the connection between the shell and cuff at the back of the boot, is worth knowing about too — it's what keeps power transfer dynamic and responsive rather than delayed, which matters even in a softer boot since you still want your effort to translate directly into the turn.

The buckle system is straightforward—four aluminum micro-buckles plus a power strap. Clean, reliable, easy to operate with gloves on. Nothing fancy for the sake of fancy.
