The Boot
The Hawx Magna 90 is Atomic's answer to a very common problem — a skier with a wider foot who keeps getting squeezed into boots that weren't built for them. It's got a 102mm last, a 90 flex, and a fit-first philosophy that doesn't ask you to suffer through three seasons of break-in.
Who It's For
This boot is aimed at skiers with wide or high-volume feet and larger calves who are newer to the sport — beginner-friendly enough for magic-carpet laps and early progression, but still built with real all-mountain capability as those skills develop. It's especially suited to intermediate male skiers who've struggled to find comfort in standard-width boots and need a wider forefoot and a more open cuff to match a bigger leg shape, without giving up the support needed to actually ski well.
But this isn't for you if you're a strong, aggressive skier who wants a stiff, precise race-room feel. The 90 flex is responsive enough to have a good time on groomed runs and cruise some bumps — it's just not a boot for someone charging hard off-piste who needs serious power transmission.
Flex & Fit
The Magna 90 carries a 90 flex, on the softer end of the spectrum, which makes it forgiving and easy to flex forward — ideal for someone still building the strength and technique to drive a stiffer boot, and generally more comfortable for all-day wear while learning. On the fit side, this is a genuinely wide boot: a 102mm last built specifically for wide and high-volume feet, paired with a tulip-shaped, open cuff designed to comfortably fit larger calves. Between the wide last, the adaptive cuff, and the heat-moldable liner, it's built to solve fit problems at the forefoot, midfoot, and calf all at once, rather than just being "loose" in one dimension.
Tech That Matters
Atomic built the Magna shell on their Memory Fit technology — the shell can be heat-molded to match your foot shape more closely than a standard shell. The liner is heat-moldable too, so between the two, you've got a real shot at a custom-feeling fit without the custom price tag.
The foundation is the wide, high-volume shell paired with an adaptive cuff system built for larger legs — this is what actually solves the comfort problem, since a lot of wide- or high-volume-footed skiers get squeezed not just in the forefoot but around the calf too, and a standard boot doesn't flex to accommodate that.
GripWalk pads round it out, giving the boot stable, secure footing when walking around the lodge or parking lot, while the 3D Stretch Toe Box — shaped asymmetrically for the left and right foot — gives extra room and first-fit comfort right out of the box.
Why Willi's
We've been fitting ski boots in the Pittsburgh area since 1970, and we do it right — heat molding, footbeds, liner fitting, all of it. Our boot fitters work on these every day of the season, not just when it's slow. Grab a pair in-store and we'll make sure the fit is dialed before you leave.
