The Jacket
This one's for the guy who wants his jacket to look like it's been through a few seasons before he even hits the lift. 686 took the deconstructed denim look - faded panels, worn seams, that lived-in feel - and built it into a real waterproof shell instead of just printing it on a hoodie. Sherpa lining inside keeps it warm without going puffy, and it still holds a 10k waterproof rating so it's not just a style piece you regret wearing in a snow squall.
What We Like
The denim print is done well - not a cheesy photo transfer, it actually reads like broken-in fabric from a few feet away. Sherpa lining makes this one easy to wear as a standalone shell once temps drop into the 20s (base layer and mid if you run cold).
Tech That Matters
686's infiDRY fabric is what gets this jacket to 10k waterproof while still breathing - it's their own waterproof/breathable build, not a third-party laminate. Underneath, infiLOFT insulation traps heat between fill groups instead of packing it flat, so you get warmth without the bulky look the denim print is trying to avoid. Seams are taped throughout. The DWR coating on the outer face is PFAS-free, so it repels wet snow without the older chemical treatments most shells still use.
On the practical side: front hand pockets for the obvious reason, adjustable snap cuffs to seal out snow when you're digging out of a fall, and a bottom hem cinch so wind doesn't find its way up from underneath. The Pant Jacket Connect system snaps this jacket to a compatible 686 pant to keep snow out entirely if you're the type who ends up on your back in the park. There's also a sleeve pass pocket with an inner key clip and headphone loops that actually keep the cord from tangling in your pocket.
Fit & Sizing
Model is 6'2", Waist 32", Chest 39" wearing size L
This jacket runs true to a regular fit - room to layer a fleece or midweight hoodie underneath without feeling bulky, but it's not oversized. If you're between sizes and plan to layer heavy, size up. If you'll mostly wear it on its own, stick with your usual jacket size.
Why Willis
We've been fitting Pittsburgh skiers and riders since 1970, and jackets are one of those things where the size chart doesn't always tell the whole story. Come try it on at any of our three locations - South Hills, North Hills, or our shop at Seven Springs - and we'll make sure it actually fits the way you layer.
