The Jacket

The Volcom 2836 Insulated Jacket is a baggy-fit, lightly insulated snow jacket that's been in the lineup long enough to mean something — and the camo colorway on the '25 version is one of the sharper pieces we've had in the shop this season. It's built around Volcom's V-Science 2-Layer shell: a recycled-blend plain weave with a non-fluorinated DWR finish and a 20,000mm / 20,000gm² waterproof-breathability rating. That's a legitimate all-day number. You're staying dry from both directions — rain or wet snow on the outside, and it breathes well enough that you're not turning into a sauna on a warmer afternoon.

The insulation is 60g in the body and 40g in the sleeves, recycled fill. Light enough that you won't overheat lapping the hill on a mild day, warm enough for a cold morning without needing a heavy base layer under it. The seams are critically taped, so water isn't creeping through the stitching on a long wet day.

One honest trade-off worth naming: this is a light insulation jacket, not a midwinter expedition coat. On a genuinely brutal below-zero day, most riders will want a midlayer underneath. Plan accordingly and you'll be dialed all season.

What Sets It Apart

The fit is Volcom's 91 Fit — intentionally roomy, with a slightly larger chest, drop shoulders, and a touch shorter in the body. It's not oversized to the point of being sloppy, but it's got room to move and room to layer. Most guys grab their normal size and are done.

Zip Tech® Jacket-to-Pant Interface lets you zip this jacket directly to compatible Volcom pants so there's no gap at the waist when you go down. Pair it with the adjustable powder skirt inside and your lower back is sealed off from the snow even when you're deep in it.

Mesh-Lined Zippered Vents give you a pressure release valve when you're working hard and don't want to take the jacket off. Open them up, dump the heat, zip them back. It's a simple thing that makes a real difference on a warmer afternoon or a long boot-pack.

Hidden Toggle Cinch Hood adjusts cleanly without a dangling cord, and the Super Suede chin guard keeps the zipper off your face when you've got it cranked all the way up. The V-Science Cuff System seals at the glove, no cold air up the sleeve. Brushed tricot lines the hand warmer pockets so your fingers actually warm up in there.

The Specialty Ticket Ring clips your lift ticket inside the jacket — borrowed from Volcom's denim hardware, and genuinely useful on a windy day when a dangling lanyard is an annoyance. The Pocket Access Hem Cinch lets you tighten the waist without losing access to your pockets.

Sizing

The 2836 runs in Volcom's relaxed 91 Fit, so it's already cut with extra room. Most riders size true to their normal jacket size. If you're between sizes and planning to run a hoodie or fleece midlayer underneath on cold days, go up one. The drop shoulder and shorter hem are intentional — it's a streetwear-influenced cut, not a traditional ski jacket silhouette. Chest measurements in the table below are approximate fits for each size.
