The Binding

The Rome 390 Boss HW has been a shop favorite for years, and the 2026 version is the clearest case yet for why. Medium flex, Rome's AuxTech® strap package, and a forged aluminum HeelWrap platform — all at $279.95. That's a lot of binding for the money.

This thing rides like it costs more than it does. The HeelWrap platform connects to the baseplate at two points, which lets the board flex naturally underfoot while still snapping back with real edge-to-edge response. You feel the snow through it. Chatter gets absorbed; energy gets transferred. It doesn't fight you.

What Sets It Apart

The AuxTech® straps are what separate the 390 Boss HW from bindings in the same price range. AuxTech is Rome's auxetic-pattern strap technology — a network of tiny geometric hinges that expand evenly when pressure is applied, spreading hold across the whole top of your boot instead of pinching at a few points. The UltraFlex Pro Ankle Strap uses that pattern with an open 3D edge and an overmolded spine. The ProGrip Toe Strap does the same for the toe box. The result is a locked-in feel that stays comfortable lap after lap.

Kink Ladders give you two ankle strap positions. Ride the strap high for more pop and response off your back foot, drop it low when you want a sloppier, more butter-friendly feel. It's a small adjustment that actually changes how the binding rides — handy if you're mixing groomers with park laps in the same session.

Flex is a medium 5/10. Enough stiffness to hold an edge when you want it, enough give to press and tweak without fighting the binding. It's the right flex for intermediate to advanced riders who aren't trying to win a race but aren't just cruising either.
