The Binding
The Tyrolia Attack 14 GW is an all-mountain alpine ski binding for advanced and expert skiers who want one binding on everything from groomers to the park. DIN range is 4 to 14, so it covers a wide spread of skier weights and aggression levels, and it's a step up from the 11-DIN bindings most all-mountain skis ship with. Stand height is 17mm. The toe is Tyrolia's FR PRO 3 with a 77mm metal AFD plate, and the heel is the NX FR three-piece design that you can adjust in the open position. It's GripWalk ready and works with ISO 5355 alpine soles too. Brake widths here are 85mm, 95mm and 110mm. Color options run green, grey, matte white, pink, red, sand and solid black. Price is $279.95 per pair. Bring your skis and boots to any of our three locations and we'll mount and set them for you.
What Sets It Apart
The metal AFD is the part we point at first. Plastic and Teflon toe plates wear down and get sticky, and a sticky AFD is how a release value drifts away from what the shop set. Metal holds its shape. It's 77mm wide, which gives a GripWalk sole plenty of surface to slide on when the boot needs to twist out.
The three-piece NX FR heel is the other one. Step-in is easy even with snow packed under the boot, and you can turn the heel DIN with the binding open instead of fighting it closed. At 4 to 14, the top of the range leaves room for a bigger or harder-charging skier who keeps maxing out a 12.
At roughly 1720g per binding with the 95mm brake, this is not a lightweight setup. It's a resort binding. Skiers counting grams for uphill days should look at a touring option instead.
Compatibility
Tyrolia lists the Attack 14 GW as compatible with adult alpine boot soles (ISO 5355 Type A) and GripWalk soles (ISO 23223 Type A). That covers most of the boots walking through our doors.
Brake width is the part people get wrong online. We stock 85mm, 95mm and 110mm, and the right one depends on your ski's waist. Bring the skis and your boots in and we'll check the brake against the waist and confirm the mount before anything gets drilled. Our techs set every binding on a calibrated release checker and give you the printout.
Why Willi's
We've been mounting bindings in Pittsburgh since 1970, and every mount here gets a release test before it leaves. Drop off your skis at South Hills, North Hills, or our shop at Seven Springs. If you bought the skis from us, ask about what the tuning shop can do while they're on the bench.
