The Binding
The NY Icon RS 16 is built for one job - holding you to your skis when you're pushing speed and edge angle that most bindings aren't asked to handle. This isn't a binding you throw on a pair of all-mountain cruisers for a mellow day. It's a race piece, and it acts like one.
What Sets It Apart
The "16" in the name tells you where this binding sits in Atomic's race lineup - it's built with a higher DIN ceiling than the standard-issue bindings most recreational skiers run. That matters when you're carrying speed through a gate or a hard-charging arc and your ski wants to release when it shouldn't. The housing feels stiff underfoot, and that stiffness is the point - less flex between boot and ski means the power you put into the edge actually gets there instead of getting absorbed. This is a binding for skiers who already know what a prerelease feels like and never want to feel it again.
We'll say it straight: this binding is wasted on a beginner or a casual intermediate. The elevated DIN range and race-tuned feel are built for skiers with the technique to load an edge hard and consistently - not for someone still finding their balance on blue groomers.
Compatibility
Available with a 75mm brake. Beyond that, we're not going to guess at mount patterns or which race skis it'll bolt to off a spec sheet - bring your skis and your boots into any of our three locations and we'll check the fit in person. Race bindings like this one get mounted with more precision than a standard demo setup, and that's not something we're comfortable doing sight unseen.
Why Willis
We've been fitting skiers in the South Hills since 1970, and race gear is where a proper mount and a proper DIN setting actually matter most. Our techs will set this binding to your skier code, not just guess-and-go, and you can get it done at our South Hills or North Hills shop, or right on the mountain at our Seven Springs location.
