The Ski

The Atomic Bent 85 is the starting point of the Bent family — the ski Chris Benchetler and the Atomic Freeski team built for skiers who want to mess around on the whole mountain, not just one patch of it. It's 85mm underfoot, which is narrow enough to snap edge-to-edge on a groomer and wide enough to stay afloat when the snow softens up. The All Mountain Rocker runs 20% tip / 65% camber / 15% tail, so you get real edge hold in the middle with enough early rise to keep the tips from diving and a short tail rocker that makes pressing and skiing switch easier than a full-camber ski.

Park days, lazy groomer laps, goofing around on side hits — the Bent 85 handles all of it without asking you to commit to one style. Skiers who need a dedicated powder plank or a race ski will want something else. But if you're still figuring out what kind of skier you are, this one grows with you.

What Sets It Apart

The core is a compound of Poplar wood and Densolite foam. Poplar keeps the weight down and holds up to impacts. The foam layer damps the chatter you'd feel over hard, choppy snow, which makes the 85 feel smoother than the price would suggest. Dura Cap Sidewall runs from base to topsheet — it transfers edge pressure cleanly and the rounded profile resists denting better than a sharp-cornered sidewall.

The edges are Atomic's Resist Edge Park spec, meaning they're ground thicker than a standard edge. That extra thickness matters when you're sliding steel. Rails chew through thin edges fast, and these hold up. The base edge is ground to 1.3° and the side to 87°, so the ski catches turns intuitively without needing aggressive angulation to grip.

Chris Benchetler's topsheet and base art are the real visual payoff — it's a clean, sharp graphic that looks nothing like a beginner ski even though the Bent 85 is absolutely accessible to strong intermediates.

Compatibility

The Bent 85 is a flat ski — no pre-mounted binding plate. Bring your boots and your board in and we'll match the right binding and brake width. Any of our three locations can set you up and mount on the spot.

Why Willi's

We've been fitting skiers in the Pittsburgh area since 1970, so we've seen a lot of "quiver-of-one" skis come through the shop. We can tell you honestly where the Bent 85 fits your skiing and where it doesn't — no upsell, just a straight answer. Stop in at any of our three locations or reach out online and we'll get you sorted.
