The Pants
The Quiksilver Young Guns Snowdown is a 20K shell pant built for riders who want serious waterproofing in a baggy fit that doesn't get in the way. It's a storm-day pant. Wet, heavy snow, all-day chair rides, side hits off the groomer — this is what it's built for.
The shell is 100% recycled nylon at 240 g/m², and the 20K waterproof rating means it handles real precipitation, not just flurries. Baggy fit with ergonomic patterning keeps it roomy through the seat and thigh without looking sloppy. Zippered welt pockets at the front and back keep your essentials dry and close. The waist uses an elastic/snap closure with a drawcord, so you can dial the fit without fussing with a separate belt.
This is a shell pant — there's no insulation in here. You're counting on your base layer and mid layer to handle warmth. That's the better setup for anyone who runs hot or wants a pant that works from early November through spring slush. Add or subtract layers underneath and the Snowdown stays dry on the outside.
What We Like
We stock a lot of men's ski and snowboard pants at Willi's, and the Snowdown earns its spot because the 20K rating is real protection. A lot of pants in this price range clock in at 10K, which is fine for a powder day. But 20K means you can sit on a wet chair lift, fall in slushy snow, and stand around in a March rainstorm and stay dry. That's a meaningful step up.
The baggy fit with ergonomic patterning is worth calling out. Baggy doesn't mean shapeless here — the patterning follows how your legs move, so you're not fighting the fabric when you're riding. And the recycled nylon shell feels more durable underhand than the lighter polyester shells you'll find on cheaper pants.
One trade-off: no integrated gaiter means you'll want to check your boot cuff fit. Most riders aren't bothered, but if deep days are your thing and powder management is a priority, it's worth noting. The pant handles everything from groomed runs to side hits without complaint.
Why Willi's
We've been fitting riders for over 50 years at our three Pittsburgh-area locations. Come in and try the Snowdown on with your actual layers — we'll help you dial the waist fit and check the inseam before you ride. If you're not sure how to layer underneath a shell pant, we'll walk you through it.
