The Jacket
The Peak Performance Whitelight Short HIPE® 2L Insulated Shell Jacket is built for cold resort days when you want warmth, protection, and real freedom of movement in one hip-length package. The 70D HIPE® 2L fabric is fully seam-sealed and windproof, so rain and wind don't get a vote.
Pinneco Mantle™ insulation handles the warmth side. The dual-channeled fiber construction packs in meaningful heat without the bulk you'd expect from a traditional fill — you're warm on cold mornings without feeling padded. Peak Performance also body-maps Solarcore® insulation in key zones. That's a NASA-developed material with serious CLO-value that holds its warmth even when compressed, so leaning against a chairlift rail or stuffing a pack doesn't kill it.
The YKK AquaGuard® front zipper seals the center, and Velcro cuffs with elastic wrist gaiters and thumbholes close off the sleeve openings. The helmet-compatible fixed hood has a laminated brim to keep it from collapsing in your face.
Storage is practical: zippered hand pockets, a chest pocket, an inner zip pocket, and a ski-pass pocket. No wasted real estate. The Sand Fog colorway is clean and neutral — works with just about any pant color you already own. One honest note: this is a resort jacket, not a backcountry shell. It's built for lift-served skiing and doesn't have pit zips for active venting, so hard-charging skiers who run hot may want to layer accordingly.
What We Like
The Pinneco Mantle™ and Solarcore® combination is genuinely smarter than a single-fill approach. Solarcore® keeps its warmth rating when compressed, which means the zones where a pack strap or a tight hood sit are still doing their job. Pinneco Mantle's dual-channeled fiber moves heat efficiently for its weight. Together they make this a jacket that's genuinely warm on a cold bluebird day without the marshmallow look.
We also like the slim, hip-length cut for skiers who want a modern silhouette over a freeride boxy fit. It's fitted enough to feel athletic but there's still room to layer a midlayer underneath. The thumbhole gaiters are a detail a lot of $550 jackets skip — they keep the sleeve sealed and your wrist warm every time. And for on-mountain safety, the built-in RECCO® reflector adds a layer of security for any off-piste moment.
Fit & Sizing
Peak Performance cuts the Whitelight Short in a slim, fitted silhouette — not tight, but closer to the body than a relaxed resort jacket. If you plan to ski in a thicker midlayer underneath, size up. The hip-length cut sits just at or just below the hip depending on your torso length, so taller skiers should check the length. Available in S, M, L, and XL. If you're between sizes, go with the larger one for comfortable midlayer clearance.
