The Pants

The Peak Performance Anima HIPE® 2L Insulated Shell Pants are the brand's go-to resort ski pant for women who want one pair that handles a full day on the mountain without feeling like they're wearing a sleeping bag. It's a 10K/10K shell, waterproof and windproof, with 60 g/m² of synthetic sheet insulation underneath. Warm enough for a cold January groomer day. Not so heavy that you're sweating by noon.

The HIPE® fabric is Peak Performance's own 2-way stretch membrane, and it's woven into a 75D midweight face so it moves with you on steep pitches without bagging out or catching the wind. Every seam is fully sealed. If it rains at the top and freezes halfway down, you're dry from both directions.

The fit is slim through the leg, mid-rise at the waist. Articulated legs mean no bind when you're in a deep squat or hiking a ridge. Snow gaiters at the hem have an anti-slip elastic so they stay put over your boot. The bottom leg has Cordura® reinforcement where your edges would otherwise eat through the fabric in a season. Adjustable velcro straps at the waistband dial in the fit over a base layer or a midlayer. Belt loops are there if you want them. There's even an internal loop to attach suspenders.

The Porto colorway is a muted, deep dusty blue. Clean without being plain. It pairs well with the matching Anima HIPE® jacket if you want to run the set.

What We Like

The insulation weight is right. At 60 g/m² of synthetic fill, these sit in the sweet spot between a true shell and a puffer pant. They work over a base layer on cold days and don't overheat you when the sun comes out. Synthetic fill also keeps its warmth when wet, which matters on shoulder-season days.

The Cordura® reinforcement at the leg hem is a small thing that makes a real difference over time. Unprotected shell fabric at the cuff takes a beating from ski edges and boot buckles. This keeps the pants looking new well into their second and third season.

The PFAS-free DWR finish is worth noting. You do have to maintain DWR over time. Wash with a technical detergent and tumble-dry low after a few days of hard skiing and the water-beading will stay strong.

These won't ventilate aggressively - there are no thigh vents. If you run hot, that's the honest trade-off. For most resort skiers who aren't skinning uphill, it's not an issue.

Fit & Sizing

The Anima fits slim through the leg and true to size for most women. They're cut to layer over a base layer or a light midlayer, not a heavyweight fleece. If you run between sizes, the smaller typically looks better; the larger gives a little more room to move.
