The Jacket

The Peak Performance Anima HIPE® 2L Insulated Shell is the brand's flagship all-mountain ski jacket, and it earns that spot. It's a 10K/10K shell — waterproof and breathable — built on HIPE® 2-way stretch fabric so it moves with you rather than fighting you on every pole plant and hip check. The face is 100% recycled polyester over a thermoplastic polyurethane membrane, and every seam is fully sealed. You're dry from both directions, and the stretch construction keeps that protection from feeling like a straitjacket.

The insulation is synthetic, which is the right call here. Down is warmer per ounce, but synthetic keeps working when it's damp, and resort days are rarely dry all the way through. It won't be the warmest jacket on the rack, but pair it with a good mid-layer on a cold morning and you've got a system that covers most of the season.

Details are clean and practical. The front zipper is a YKK AquaGuard® coil — a waterproof zipper that doesn't add bulk or stiffness. The hood detaches, fits over a helmet when you need it, and stows away when you don't. Underarm vents let you dump heat fast without pulling your jacket over your head. The snow skirt snaps into compatible ski pants to keep wind and spindrift out. And there's a goggle wiper tucked into one of the pockets — a small thing, but you'll remember it mid-run when everyone else is wiping their lens on their sleeve.

Pockets: two zippered hand pockets, a zippered ski pass pocket, an inner mesh stash pocket, and a zippered inner pocket. Enough room to actually carry a day's worth of gear.

What We Like

The HIPE® 2-way stretch is what separates this from a standard resort jacket. A lot of insulated shells at this price feel fine standing still and restrictive the moment you try to load a turn or reach a pole. This one doesn't. The 75D midweight fabric is durable enough for a full season of real use, and the recycled face fabric is a plus. Potro — the warm, tawny brown Peak Performance is carrying this season — looks sharp against the snow without shouting.

One honest limitation: at 10K/10K, this is a solid mid-range waterproof rating. It handles resort weather well. If you're skinning into the backcountry in a full storm or spending long days in truly relentless wet snow, a higher-rated shell would serve you better. For resort days and the occasional powder morning, it's plenty.

Fit & Sizing

Peak Performance cuts the Anima in a regular fit — not boxy, but with enough room to layer a fleece or a light insulator underneath without pulling across the shoulders. It's designed to sit at a standard jacket length. The cuffs are adjustable with elastic and Velcro, and the hem has a drawcord so you can dial in the fit over your pants. If you're between sizes, size up to leave room for a mid-layer underneath.

Why Willi's

We've been fitting skiers and riders in the Pittsburgh area since 1970, and we carry Peak Performance because it performs at the mountain, not just in the shop. Come see us at any of our three locations — South Hills, North Hills, or our on-mountain shop at Seven Springs — and we'll make sure you walk out in the right size with the right layering system under it.
