The Binding

The Tyrolia AM 12 GW is a clean, capable all-mountain alpine binding built for skiers who want real safety technology without paying for features they'll never use. DIN range runs 3.5 to 12, stand height is 21 mm, and it mounts flat on any ski without an integrated base plate. At $209.95, it covers a wide range of intermediate-to-advanced adult skiers.

It comes in 85 mm and 95 mm brake widths. Bring your skis in to any of our three locations and we'll help you match the right brake to your setup.

What Sets It Apart

Most bindings at this price point release in one plane. The AM 12 GW releases in two, and that's the thing worth understanding before you buy something cheaper.

The TRP Toe System uses four rollers to allow a full 180° release arc, from straight vertical all the way to horizontal. That matters in backward twisting falls, where a standard toe would stay locked. The Full Diagonal Toe works with that system to deliver the release in the actual direction of the fall, not just perpendicular to the ski.

At the heel, the D-RX Diagonal Heel covers a 150° release range. In a forward twisting fall, it releases along the direction of the fall rather than straight up. That's the geometry that reduces knee and ligament load, and it's the reason Tyrolia puts it across their line rather than just on the expensive models.

The Anti Friction Slider (AFS) handles re-centering. After a flex or a partial release, it snaps the boot back to center cleanly. And the ABS band, Tyrolia's proprietary toe buffer, helps the toe absorb short, sharp impacts without triggering a false release on a rough groomer or a patch of crud.

One real trade-off: the AM 12 is not a lightweight binding. At roughly 1,980 g a pair, it's built for durability and safety function, not weight savings. If you're building a touring setup or putting together the lightest possible piste ski, look elsewhere. For a hard-charging resort skier who wants protection in all kinds of falls, the weight is worth it.

Compatibility

The AM 12 GW works with standard Alpine boot soles (ISO 5355 Type A) and GripWalk soles (ISO 23223 Type A) with no sole height adjustment needed. It mounts on any flat ski without an integrated rail or base system. Recommended minimum skier weight is 36 kg.

Fitment to your specific skis matters. Bring your skis in and we'll dial the brake width, mount position, and DIN to your weight, boot sole length, and skiing style — that's a job for a tech, not a chart.
