The Jacket

The 686 Woodland looks like the flannel your dad wore to the hardware store. It is not. Underneath that yarn-dyed flannel face is a waterproofed, insulated shell built to handle a full day on the hill without you looking like you're headed to the hill. That's the whole point of this jacket - it does the technical stuff quietly and lets the flannel do the talking.

Most "flannel jackets" on the market are just a print job on a shell fabric - a photo of flannel, basically. The Woodland actually is flannel, yarn-dyed and hand-feel on the outside, with a waterproof and breathable membrane laminated behind it. You get the texture and look of a work shirt with the guts of a real winter jacket.

What We Like

We like that this thing doesn't scream "ski jacket." Pair it with jeans on the drive up, throw it on over a base layer for the lift, wear it around town after - it does all three without you needing to change. The insulation is enough to hold heat on a cold chairlift ride but the jacket still breathes when you're hiking a sidecountry pitch or hauling gear across a parking lot.
